How to choose the right lipstick?

Which lipstick is right for me? Not easy to know. We are sometimes attracted by a great color but which in the end does not suit us at all. If you are a little lost in the middle of glosses, matte reds and other lip glosses, here are some tips for choosing the right lipstick.

Which lipstick to choose if you are blonde?

We love: lipsticks that play the transparency card, especially in winter. They bring freshness to our make-up and give us the look of a doll. We opt for a pinkish red, a fresh pink or a fuchsia. In summer, we adopt orange shades – coral or mandarin – which enhance our tanned complexion and give us a healthy glow!
We avoid: matte lipsticks and intense reds that we reserve for special occasions because they give a very sophisticated look, too much everyday. We banish dark shades in general (wine lees, burgundy, chocolate …) which lack softness.
The right products: we opt for a stick lipstick with a light and moisturizing texture that intensely colors our lips, without any material effect. For a beautiful lip texture, choose a lip stick with a care effect (despite its light color result).

Which lipstick to choose if you are brunette?

We love: the lipsticks that light up our lips. Summer and winter, we adorn our mouths with warm, brilliant and luminous colors such as red, orange, burgundy or pink. They spice up our look and foil the dull side of dark hair colors.
Avoid: too light shades that lack intensity and lipsticks that lack pep.
The right products: we prefer a stick lipstick, provided that the result is luminous. For a sophisticated and glamorous result, we favor lip polishes that combine impeccable hold and ultimate shine. For a more girly look, use a gloss. The only downside is its outfit, which generally leaves much to be desired.

Which lipstick to choose if you are a redhead?

We love: the lipsticks that sublimate our fiery hair and magnify our milky skin. For a glamorous look à la Jessica Chastain or Nicole Kidman, we go for covering lipsticks and intense colors (burgundy, wine lees, brown, rust …).
Avoid: lip sticks with a too light texture, light beiges and pastel pinks that lack personality. In general, we avoid the colors in the half-measure which are not intense enough.
The right products: opt for a stick lipstick that provides an intense, satin or matte finish. For a natural and luminous make-up, we use a gloss, which we apply several times during the day. In the evening, put on a lip polish for a sophisticated and glamorous result.

Choose the color of your lipstick according to your skin color

To put makeup on our mouths without making any false notes, it is essential to take into account our skin color. White, gold or black, our skins are not all equal and do not match the different colors in the same way. To avoid making any mistakes, we follow the advice of our expert!

  • If we have white skin: we opt for bright, dark and intense shades that wake up our complexion. Topping the list are fuchsias, reds and purples.
  • If you have Asian skin: we love cool shades, especially transparent pinks, to counterbalance the golden color of the skin.
  • If you have dark skin: we prefer warm tones with transparent or shiny finishes that enhance our naturally tanned complexion like reds and browns.
  • If we have black skin: we choose deep colors that illuminate our complexion such as purple, chocolate, burgundy or pink, whether they are iridescent, pearly or shiny.

Choose your lipstick according to your type of lips

Finally, to obtain a star’s mouth , be careful, we do not neglect the nature of our lips. Perfectly full and contoured lips can afford anything. For the others, we identify the type of lips and we retain some pro tips.

  • Which lipstick to choose if you have thin lips: first, you redraw your lips with a pencil, cheating slightly on the natural pattern, without going beyond the hem of the lips. We insist a little more on the heart of the mouth in order to create a three-dimensional effect. Finally, we opt for a luminous and satiny texture which gives an impression of volume.
  • Which lipstick to choose if you have full lips: we prefer matte and dark colors that absorb light and reduce the volume through an optical effect. We absolutely avoid shiny textures.
  • Which lipstick to choose if our lips are not drawn: we redraw them using a pencil to give body to the mouth. We apply a matte or slightly satin lipstick to keep the design. Finally, avoid excessively bright reds which amplify the “blur” effect.

Choosing the right lipstick texture

Glossy, matte or satin? The textures of lipstick are not lacking and adapt to the style and desires of each. It remains to choose the right one according to your personality or the occasion.
Matte : With its clean and natural finish, matte lipstick is suitable for sophisticated styles but … not for dry or sensitive lips in need of a little hydration.
Shiny : luminous and melting, shiny lipstick gives volume to thin mouths. Generally moisturizing, it adapts to lips that tend to dry out. But … it tends to disappear during the day.
Satin: between matte and gloss, satin lipstick owes its shine to its color adorned with pearly pigments. Ideal for thin lips (the pearly side gives a volume effect), however, it has enough moisturizing agents to suit all. But … too iridescent, it loses its modernity, not enough, it is too bland.
Glossy : gloss or lipstick version, liquid textures are ideal for a discreet and natural make-up. Transparent and shiny, the gloss gives a wet effect for chewable lips. A good ally to add volume to thin lips. But … long hair sticks easily to your lips!

How to apply lipstick properly ?

Make a cross on the lip liner: forget the star of the 80s, who only aims to draw the outline of the lips. Otherwise, choose a pencil the same color as your lipstick.
Beware of overflow: if you have chosen a lipstick with a straightforward tone, do not exceed by applying it! Also be careful to color all the lips, so as not to give the impression of a job quickly done badly, or not to reduce the size of your lips.
Remove the superfluous: after applying your lipstick, remove the excess lipstick by placing a handkerchief between your lips. This gesture will prevent you from any stain on your clothes or marks on your teeth.
Finally, if you have bet everything on the makeup of the mouth, stay sober for that of the eyes. The idea is to keep everything balanced.

What your lipstick says about you

And yes, know that your use of your chosen lipstick says a lot about you and your personality. So, if your stick of rouge has whistle wear, you are more of a daring woman, a little whimsical, very active and even domineering. Be careful, you don’t like to be resisted!

Is your lipstick flat? You are relaxed by nature, you like sports and the great outdoors. For you, well-being and quality of life are essential.
If the tip of your lipstick is rounded, you are a great romantic, who appreciates softness and harmony. You are a sensual woman who easily falls in love … but quickly gets bored too!

Beveled wear, for its part, reflects a refined character. You are a woman who has an eye for detail and who likes to lead by example. You are sometimes thought to be cold when you are just calm.
